Skirlaugh Parish Council Serving Your Village For You

Severe Weather
During severe weather, East Riding Council will be of limited help to keep
things moving in the village, confining their efforts to the main bus routes
and a few footpaths.
The Parish Council will try to supplement this, to ensure that parishioners
can move around more easily when severe weather prevails.
This will include the spreading of salt & grit on the most heavily used
footpaths, and the use of appropriate machinery and vehicles to try to de-
ice village roads. This will be done by a local company, who will decide
the most beneficial use of the time and materials available. A small stock-
pile is kept locally to facilitate their being used as soon as is possible.
The Parish Council will also act as an emergency point of reference for
housebound residents in need of urgent help & assistance.
Whilst it is helpful to clear snow from your private pathways, please
consider where the snow is cleared to, as this can cause inconvenience if
shovelled onto footpaths.
Where possible, vehicles parked on driveways does help to keep the roads
and pavements clear for snow clearance and general traffic movements.
More elderly residents may need help with getting basic provisions and
medicines if they are unable to get out for them.
